Mr. Burrito Bowl Presents: The Best Color in the World Tournament Challenge

COLOR

Before we begin, I don’t have too much time on my hands. I just want to say that upfront. I’m incredibly busy, I’m just not very good at prioritizing, apparently. Anyway. When I was in second grade I spent hours trying to figure out which shade of blue was my most favorite. I never could decide and it was quite stressful thinking that I might accidentally choose the wrong one. I felt like I was betraying sky blue if I chose light blue and don’t even get me started on aqua compared to turquoise. Even typing this out is giving me anxiety. I think we all need to figure out once and for all which color is the best color.

In order to do this, I did what any normal 32-year-old second grader with access to the internet would do- I made a bracket. Round one just concluded. Read the round one analysis and press conference here. Press conference? You bet your sweet ass there was a press conference.

Boom.

Thanks for voting! Round 2 starts on Friday, July 26th at 6:00pm and concludes Saturday July 27th at 8pm.

Wait, WTF is happening?

Okay. If you want more background, here’s what’s going on. In order to get the sixteen colors for the inaugural Best Color in the World Tournament Challenge, I went a little over the top and polled a bunch of people on Facebook and Twitter, created a bracket of the most popular choices, and then created a bunch of polls for people to vote on.

So here’s how it’s all going to go down.

All voting will be done via these polls in a 1 vs. 1 competition, winner moves on. May the best color win. The first round will start Saturday at 8 pm on July 20th with voting ending on Sunday, July 21st at 8 pm.

Round one winners will be posted Sunday, July 21st after 8:00 pm in the one true time zone.

If this is still not enough information and you want to understand more of the backstory keep reading, I guess.

Disclaimers: Listen, I only got 16 slots for my picks. I polled people on Twitter and Facebook and did several superfluous polls leading up to the bracket. It could be argued that blues and greens are getting too many slots in this tournament. They're the SEC in this situation and we're making room for Division II colors like yellow and cognac to make their mark.

Superfluous polls that lead us to where we are

I asked a bunch of people on Twitter and Facebook what their favorite colors were.  To start off, I asked the classic ROY G. BIV question. It was split into two groups of four because Twitter only lets you do four options in a poll.

Color

In the first group, green was the clear favorite with 61% of the total vote. Red came in second place and was very brave. Nobody really likes Orange or Yellow.

color

In the next group, blue was the clear winner with 78% of the vote. Violet was second place but really it was blue and everybody else.

The Best Roy G. Biv Color

The final round pitted the top four against each other. Can you feel the excitement? Finally green vs. blue, red and violet get their chance at a triumphant comeback.  What would happen?! You could cut the tension with a knife!

color

Just kidding, blue easily own. Blue is the best color.  That’s why different shades of blue appear in the bracket whereas brown just gets to be brown.  Actually, I’ll make brown be cognac. I bet it will get more votes that way. Who doesn’t want to vote for cognac? It’s so romantic. Green did pretty well in the polls as well so green also received several entrants.

When looking at the bracket you might wonder why the blue and green colors are right next to each other. Excellent question. For one, I didn’t want to have powerful colors like aqua and turquoise run over plucky colors like pale yellow and aubergine, so I put them on opposite sides of the bracket. Secondly, I didn’t want to have all the non-blue/green colors eliminated in the first round. This should lead to a more exciting tournament throughout.

But wait! We’re just getting started.

So Blue is the best, which color is the WORST?

We don’t just want to know people like blue. We also want to know what they don’t like. In order to answer this, we had to do another poll. A consolation poll.

And Brown was the clear winner, or loser, as it were. Brown was also the only color that’s not in the classic rainbow, which, come on rainbow. Brown is clearly a color, and why do we call it indigo and violet instead of purple and whatever color indigo is? I think it’s dark blue. Anyway, nobody likes brown.

Speaking of Indigo, no other color was hurt nearly as badly as being paired up with blue right from the beginning. Indigo crushed the competition in the consolation bracket. To make sure this wasn’t a fluke, we ran one more poll: Which is your FAVORITE among the loser colors.

Wow, people love Indigo almost as much as they hate Brown. Really impressive stuff. It’s basically blue but just not quite blue, so I guess that all makes sense.

How vague, right?

So blue is the best huh? Just blue? Which blue? What about greenish-blue or blueish green? Is standard globe blue the one everyone loves or are people thinking about sky blue? What about red? People who love red are passionate about their love of red. They actively dislike blue because it takes away from red’s shine.

And about this green being second place business, which green? Are people thinking of grass green or are they thinking of some type of cyan?

Also, violet? Nobody thinks of violet as their favorite, they think of purple! Where are the purple and pinks of the world? Where is their day? We simply needed a bigger bracket.

So, that’s why I made a bigger bracket with more impressive-sounding colors.
