Round Two Analysis and Press Conference- Color Tournament Challenge

press conference
“Wow, round two took everything we had. Defense wins championships.”- Turquoise at the post-round press conference, after beating blue five votes to four.

Another action-packed round is in the books of the inaugural Mr. Burrito Bowl Presents: The Best Color in the World Tournament Challenge. Round Two was marked by some of the most heated match-ups in recent memory when red battled yellow for primary color supremacy and some other colors were also paired against each other.

The main takeaway from round two was defense, defense, defense. After an offensive explosion in round one, round two saw all the colors really buckle down and try to not let their opponents score. In other words, nobody really voted.  Let’s take a look at the round two recap and press conference musings.

Voting turnout was way down compared to round one and left many of the tournament organizers befuddled and riddled with the crippling anxiety of self-doubt. Do people even want a color tournament? Is the world not ready to know the best color? There were many questions.

The average number of votes per match-up in round one was around twenty-seven votes. The average number of votes per match-up in round two was…nine votes. Nine. And, a few of those were my votes trying to test to make sure the poll was working correctly. A humbling experience.

One of two things was clear: Either a) people had trouble voting due to some technological error that Mr. Burrito Bowl does not fully understand or b) people were over it. Most likely people had trouble voting because a color tournament is an awesome idea and who wouldn’t want to spread it out over the course of a month? But, that might be my own bias speaking. In order to answer this question, we did another poll.

So, it turns out people were over it.

It is possible that the average round one voter was pleasantly surprised at the child-like audacity of a color tournament, but their enthusiasm waned somewhere between the cold realization that the tournament was a real thing and not a joke, and the even colder realization that the fictional tournament was going to be a four-week ordeal. I don’t know where we went wrong.

Round two had the hype and storyline to keep even the most colorblind among us glued to the edge of their seats. All that didn’t matter though because only a couple of people on Twitter read the hype articles. Anyway, here’s how it all turned out…

So this is where we are heading into the semi-finals. It’s anybody’s guess whether or not these colors are the people’s favorites or not, but that’s what happens in show business.

Recap and analysis.

Red vanquishes mortal enemy yellow and (due to a single vote blue loss to turquoise) advances to the semi-finals as the only primary color left in the tournament. Tournament favorite cobalt blue defended a tremendous attack from aqua, fending off the underdog by a single vote. Aubergine watched their tournament dreams come crashing down as they were soundly defeated by a strong indigo team. Round two had it all, except widespread voting.

The semi-finals are set and it’s anybody’s guess who will emerge the victors and punch themselves a ticket to the championship. Red has been quietly dominating the competition, winning each round by the largest margin. Is red the new dark horse to win the whole thing, or have they just been fortunate to receive favorable match-ups? Indigo has been on fire in this tournament and they’ll be putting red to the test in this hotly anticipated semi-finals match-up.

Cobalt blue escaped the quarter-finals by the skin of their teeth, but they’ll need to be on their A-game if they’re going to beat a well rounded turquoise team. The semi-finals are all set with one of these four teams sure to be crowned the best color in the world for 2019. Let’s take a look at the press conference that took a lot of effort and time to put together.
