Round One Recap and What to Look for in Round Two

Wow, what an opening round to the first annual Mr. Burrito Bowl Presents: The Best Color in the World Tournament Challenge! For those of you who missed out on the first article and don’t know what the hell we’re talking about, you can start with this:

Mr. Burrito Bowl Presents: The Best Color in the World Tournament Challenge

I assume the rest of you have poured some portion of your limited life resources into following along with this fictional tournament. Let’s get right to it.

round

Cobalt blue stormed out of the gates and didn’t let up, leading to an impressive win over sky blue in the people’s main event. Teal and aqua were originally billed as the matchup of the opening round but aqua dominated from start to finish so there wasn’t the late drama and fireworks many experts had predicted. This sets up possibly the matchup of the tournament in round two between the undefeated cobalt blue and the perennial powerhouse aqua.

Also in the first round, red scored the biggest percentage win so far in the tournament with a thrashing of hot pink by securing 82.76% of the vote. Yellow beat out mustard yellow, setting up a classic matchup between two primary colors when red and yellow meet in round two. There’s a lot of tension between those two colors so we’ll be keeping a close eye on this grudge match.

Blue showed why it’s the tournament favorite with a strong win over a plucky olive green 73.33% to 26.67%. Blue will have a real test in round two when it goes up against tournament dark horse, turquoise. Several panelists are predicting a big upset here and several more panelists are surprised this tournament is still going.

The final matchup of round two pits newcomer aubergine against rainbow mainstay, indigo. Both colors easily won their first-round matchups against cognac and lavender, respectively.

Round two begins Friday, July 26th at 6 pm and will conclude Saturday, July 27th at 8 pm.

Press Conference Questions and Answers

round

Mr. Burrito Bowl, how has the tournament gone compared to your expectations so far?

It’s been a blast. The energy is there, the excitement, the whole nine. We purposely put together some pretty even matchups in the first round, but the scores don’t always reflect that. I would say the biggest surprise was that the rounds weren’t closer.

What would you say to your critics that say it’s overkill to turn a fictional tournament into a four-week ordeal?

Look, everyone wants a tournament to be over in a weekend, but that’s just not realistic. You get color burnout doing that. Cobalt blue vs. turquoise is the kind of matchup kids dream about. It’s like tiger vs. shark, you don’t want to rush through it. Sure we could have done every matchup in one night, but it loses its excitement and credibility.

What about your critics that say just this whole thing is ridiculous?

I honestly don’t think anybody is saying that. People have been asking for a single-elimination bracketed color tournament for years. Let’s hear some questions for our colors.

Question for red. Umm, what do you think about yellow and your upcoming matchup?

round

I have a question for blue, are you at all worried that maybe beating a very plain green isn’t that big of a deal and turquoise will be a lot more difficult?

round

Yellow, what do you have to say to red?

round

We don’t have any more questions.

round

Who are you?

round

You look purple.

round

They should just call you dark purple.
